Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs you enter, by the method stated below it. The only constants DailyLogDesk supplies are the published reporting clocks and assessment steps, each cited where it is used. The defaults are a worked example to replace with your own.

A working at height risk assessment PDF, printed filled from your task rather than downloaded blank: the rows for avoiding the work at height where it can be avoided, preventing the fall where it cannot, minimising the distance and consequence where a fall is still possible, and the rescue, each scored before and after the controls and each with a named person. The risk assessment template on this site produces the PDF, free and without an account; DailyLogDesk Pro keeps it against the project with the inspection record for the equipment.

Avoid: can the work be done from the ground?

The first row, and the one a blank PDF never asks: extending tools, prefabrication at ground level, a different method. Where the answer is no, the row says why, and the assessment moves to prevention. A PDF that has no avoid row is a form, not an assessment.

Prevent: the platform, the edge, the access

A working platform with guard rails over a ladder; edge protection before the first person goes near the edge; the access by stair or tied ladder; the scaffold inspected and handed over; the MEWP with its operator trained and its ground checked. Each a row with the equipment, the inspection and the person named.

Minimise and rescue: the fall that can still happen

Where a fall is still possible, the nets, the airbags or the fall arrest, with the anchor and the clearance calculated, and the rescue plan for the person hanging in the harness, rehearsed and with the equipment on site. The rescue row is the one an inspector reads first when a harness is in use.

The PDF, printed filled and kept

The template prints the assessment as a PDF with your rows, the scores and the signatures, so what comes off the printer is the document and not a grid to fill in later. Pro keeps the PDF against the project with the equipment inspections and raises the review when the task or the site changes.

Working at height risk assessment PDF: common questions

Is the working at height risk assessment PDF free?

Yes. The risk assessment template on this site prints the filled PDF with no account and no card. Pro keeps it against the project.

Do I need a rescue plan for a harness?

Yes. Fall arrest without a rescue plan leaves a person hanging, and the rescue must be arranged before the work starts, not called for after the fall.

Is a ladder ever acceptable for work at height?

For short-duration, low-risk work where a platform is not reasonably practicable, with the justification written in the assessment. The ladder is the exception the row has to argue for.
