Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs you enter, by the method stated below it. The only constants DailyLogDesk supplies are the published reporting clocks and assessment steps, each cited where it is used. The defaults are a worked example to replace with your own.

A work method statement example, filled for a real task so the difference between the template and the document is visible: a strip-out and re-fit of a small commercial kitchen, with the header, the people and their competence, the plant, the isolation of the services, the sequence of work from the first day's protection to the last day's handover, the control from the risk assessment written into each step, the permits, the emergency arrangements and the sign-on sheet. The risk assessment and method statement tool on this site builds yours the same way, free and without an account; Pro keeps it against the project.

The header and the people

Job: strip-out and re-fit, ground floor kitchen. Client, site address, start date, revision 1. The crew: the supervisor with the site management card, two fitters, an electrician and a plumber with their competence cards listed, the first aider named. The plant: a small breaker, a dust extractor, a step platform, a tower. The permits: isolation of the gas and the electrics before day one.

The sequence, days one to three

Day one: sign in, induction, protection of the corridor and the adjoining rooms, isolation of the gas and the electrics confirmed and locked off, strip-out of the units with the dust extractor running and the waste route to the skip marked. Day two: the services altered by the plumber and the electrician, proved dead and tested. Day three: the new units fitted from the platform, the tower for the extract, the tests, the certificates and the clean. At each step the control from the assessment is the sentence before the work.

The emergency block and the changes

The first aider and the kit, the nearest hospital, the fire point and the assembly point, the person to call when the site is not as described. The rule for changes: stop, tell the supervisor, revise the method, brief the revision, sign again. The example carries a revision 2 for the day the floor was found to be softer than the survey said.

The sign-on sheet and the file

Every member of the crew signs after the briefing on day one and again after the revision. The example is filed against the project with its assessment and its briefing, which is what Pro does for yours, with the export for the client at the end.

Work method statement example: common questions

Can I copy the example for my own job?

Copy the shape, not the steps. The steps are for that kitchen; yours come from your site's assessment, and the tool on this site builds them from it.

Is the tool free?

Yes. The risk assessment and method statement tool builds and sizes the pack with no account and no card. Pro keeps it against the project.

How detailed should each step be?

Detailed enough that the person doing the step has the control in the sentence in front of them. A step that says 'fit the units' has no control in it; a step that says 'fit the units from the platform, the tower footed and tagged' does.
