Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs you enter, by the method stated below it. The only constants DailyLogDesk supplies are the published reporting clocks and assessment steps, each cited where it is used. The defaults are a worked example to replace with your own.
A risk assessment method statement template is one pack in two parts: the assessment, with the hazards scored before and after the controls, and the method statement, which takes those controls and applies them step by step in the order the work is done. The risk assessment and method statement tool on this site builds both from the same inputs so they cannot disagree, sizes the pack and prices the briefing, free and without an account; DailyLogDesk Pro keeps the pack against the project with the sign-on sheet.

The assessment: hazards scored before and after the controls
Rows for each hazard found on the walk, who is harmed and how, the likelihood and severity before any control, the control, and the score again after it. The tool on this site scores out of 25 and prints the reduction, which is what the approver reads first. The rows are written from the site, not from a library.
The method statement: the controls as steps, in order
The sequence of work from arrival to leaving site, with the control from the assessment written into the step where it applies: the isolation before the strip-out, the edge protection before the first course, the fire watch after the last weld. A method statement that lists the controls at the end rather than at the step is a list the crew will not read at the moment it matters.
The people, the plant and the emergency arrangements
Who is on the task and with what competence, the plant and its inspection, the permits, the first aider, the nearest hospital, the rescue where the task needs one. The template carries these as their own block so they are not lost in the steps.
Briefed, signed and filed together
The pack is briefed to the crew before the task starts and the sign-on sheet is the record. Pro keeps the assessment, the method statement and the briefing together against the project, with the revision history, and exports the pack for the principal contractor.

Risk assessment method statement template: common questions
Is the risk assessment and method statement template free?
Yes. The tool on this site builds and sizes the pack with no account and no card. Pro keeps the packs against the project and raises the review when it is due.
Which comes first, the assessment or the method?
The assessment. The method statement applies its controls; a method written first has controls decided by the sequence of work rather than by the hazards.
Does every job need a RAMS pack?
Most main contractors and clients ask for one before you start on their site whatever the size of the task. The tool sizes the pack to the task so a small job gets a short pack rather than none.
