Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs you enter, by the method stated below it. The only constants DailyLogDesk supplies are the published reporting clocks and assessment steps, each cited where it is used. The defaults are a worked example to replace with your own.

A risk and method statement template is the pack a client or a main contractor asks for before a contractor starts: the risk assessment with the hazards scored before and after the controls, and the method statement that applies those controls step by step in the order the work is done, with the people, the plant, the permits and the emergency arrangements in their own blocks. The risk assessment and method statement tool on this site builds the pack from one set of inputs, free and without an account; DailyLogDesk Pro keeps it against the project.

The assessment half

The hazards found on the walk of this site, who is harmed and how, the scores before and after the controls, the control and the person responsible. The tool scores out of 25 and prints the reduction; the rows are from the site rather than from a library.

The method half

The sequence of work from arrival to leaving, with each control written into the step where it applies. The reader is the person on site at that step. A method that lists the controls in a separate section is a method the crew does not read at the moment it matters.

The blocks the pack is sized by

The people and their competence, the plant and its inspection, the permits, the first aider, the hospital, the rescue, the person to call when something changes. The tool sizes the pack from these and prices the briefing so a small task gets a short pack rather than none.

Briefed, signed and kept with the job

The pack is briefed before the task and signed by the crew; a revision is briefed again. Pro keeps every revision and every sign-on sheet against the project and exports the pack when the principal contractor asks for it.

Risk and method statement template: common questions

Is the risk and method statement template free?

Yes. The tool on this site builds and sizes the pack with no account and no card. Pro keeps the packs against the project.

What is the difference between this and a RAMS?

None. RAMS is the trade's short name for the risk assessment and method statement pack.

Do I need one for a one-day job?

If the client or the main contractor asks for one, yes, and most do. The tool sizes the pack to the task so a one-day job gets a one-day pack.
