Risk assessment construction use: per task, from the site walk, then into the RAMS the principal contractor approves

Risk assessment construction use follows the site's routine: one assessment per task, written from the walk of the site, its hazards the site's own, its controls placed into the method statement, the pair submitted to the principal contractor and approved under CDM before the task starts. The HSE's guidance, cited below, gives risk assessment as five steps: identify hazards, assess the risks, control the risks, record your findings, review the controls, and says that if you employ 5 or more people you must record your significant findings. Regulation 3 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, cited below, requires every employer to make a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to the health and safety of their employees, and regulation 3(6) requires an employer with five or more employees to record the significant findings and any group of employees especially at risk. The risk assessment template on this site prints the assessment from the task, free and without an account.

From the walk

The services, the ground, the height, the plant, the trades next door, the public. Found on the site, with the operative, before the task is programmed. A hazard list that could belong to any site is the commonest reason a construction RAMS is returned.

Into the method

Each control at a step, referenced by hazard number; the risk assessment and method statement tool on this site does that from the rows. A control assessed and never placed at a step is the finding an audit makes, and building the method from the rows prevents it.

Reviewed weekly

A construction site changes weekly and the assessment is reviewed with it, the review recorded whether or not anything changed. The review is a line in the footer with a date and initials, and the paid product reminds the foreman when it falls due.

Approved and kept

Under CDM, cited below, approved against the plan; kept in its version against the job. DailyLogDesk Pro keeps it; the tools print it. From the vendors' own pricing pages, cited below: SafetyCulture lists its Premium plan at $29 per seat per month billed monthly or $24 billed annually, with a free plan for small teams; Contractor Foreman lists its Basic plan at $49 per month for one user. DailyLogDesk Pro is $29 per month for the whole site team.
