A printable toolbox talk template: one page with the topic, hazard, control, questions and signatures, printed for the tailgate and filed against the job

A printable toolbox talk template is one page that goes on the tailgate at seven in the morning and into the job file at eight. The topic, tied to the RAMS for the task in hand. The hazard as the crew would see it. The control the crew is reminded to apply. What to do if it fails. Two or three questions and the answers given. Every attendee's signature, the presenter, the date, the job. The risk assessment and method statement tool on this site prints the sign-on block the sheet uses, free and without an account.

The top of the page

Job, date, presenter, the RAMS reference and the topic. A talk tied to a RAMS is about a hazard on this site; a talk from a calendar is about a topic nobody meets this week. The RAMS reference is the line that ties the talk to the task, and the auditor reads it first.

The middle

Hazard, control, failure: three lines in the crew's words, because the talk is minutes. Then the questions asked and the answers, recorded, which is what shows the talk was a conversation. A crew member's question that reveals a gap in the RAMS is the best outcome a talk has.

The bottom

Signatures with the date. The sheet is filed against the job with the RAMS it supports; a year of them is what an auditor asks for. A sheet with the topic and no signatures is a note; with them it is evidence that the crew were briefed on that control on that day, which is what an investigator asks about.

Printing and keeping

Print a stack at the start of the job and fill one per talk; the paid product keeps them against the job so the stack is never lost in the van. From the vendors' own pricing pages, cited below: SafetyCulture lists its Premium plan at $29 per seat per month billed monthly or $24 billed annually, with a free plan for small teams; Contractor Foreman lists its Basic plan at $49 per month for one user. DailyLogDesk Pro is $29 per month for the whole site team.
