A free risk assessment template: the HSE's five steps, sized to your task and printed without an account

A free risk assessment template is on this site, and the shape it takes is the HSE's, not this site's. The HSE's guidance, cited below, gives risk assessment as five steps: identify hazards, assess the risks, control the risks, record your findings, review the controls, and says that if you employ 5 or more people you must record your significant findings. The risk assessment template on this site takes the task, the hazards, the people at risk and the controls, and prints the assessment with the residual risk per hazard, the record the law describes, and the review date, free and without an account. The paid product keeps it against the job.

Identify hazards

What in this task, on this site, could cause harm: the height, the plant, the services, the dust, the manual handling, the public. One row per hazard. The template counts them and sizes the document from the count.

Assess and control

Who could be harmed and how, the likelihood and the severity, and the control that brings the risk down, with the residual risk stated. A control is a specific measure, edge protection or isolation or an exclusion zone, not the word care.

Record

Regulation 3 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, cited below, requires every employer to make a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to the health and safety of their employees, and regulation 3(6) requires an employer with five or more employees to record the significant findings and any group of employees especially at risk. The template prints the record in that shape, with the author, the date and the reviewer.

Review

When the task, the site or the people change, and after an incident. The template carries the review date; DailyLogDesk Pro reminds the contractor when it falls due and keeps the incident reports that trigger an early one.

Do I need to register?

No. The template prints without an account.
